Recognised Standard 11 is here!
01 - 07 - 2011
What is it?
Recognised Standard 11 is to assist mine sites in establishing and maintaining a training system which includes processes for identifying and delivering competent, safe and efficient workers. Recognised Standard 11 is issued under the authority of the Minister for Mines and Energy and was gazetted on October 1 2010.
What does it mean?
As in the past mine sites have an obligation to induct all mine workers. SSE's now have an obligation to ensure that all mine workers are competent in 6 units of competency from the Resource Industry and Infrastructure Training Package. They are:
| RIICOM201A: | Communicate in the workplace |
| RIIGOV201A: | Comply with site work processes/procedures |
| RIIOHS201A: | Work safely and follow OHS policies and procedures |
| RIIRIS201A: | Conduct local risk control |
| RIIERR205A: | Apply initial response first aid |
| RIIERR302A: | Respond to local emergencies and incidents(Surface Only) |
| RIIERR203A: | Escape from hazardous situations unaided (Underground Only) |
This means that initial induction training will take longer to complete and will cost a little more.
In addition the units of competency specified in Recognised Standard 11 require a high percentage of practical assessment to be completed in the work environment. ie On a mine site.
How does it effect everybody?
So now in addition to completing an induction program in the training room attendee's will also have to take away a booklet to be completed onsite in the workplace environment before they can be deemed fully competent and receive their Statement of Attainment.
